Excellent computer skills, customer service, and multi-task. Foremen are site supervisors who ensure that fitters and apprentices are paid properly, supervise the work, and coordinate site plans and schedules. Fitters are considered experts at installing, cutting, grooving, and threading all sorts of piping. They install the sprinkler heads and ensure that all water-based plumbing is installed according to NFPA codes. Apprentices are fitters in training who assist experienced fitters with installing systems. Apprentices attend classes and complete over 8000 hours of on-the-job (OJT) training before becoming Journey worker fitters.
