Business Intelligence Data Analyst Job Description

Mishimoto is currently seeking a BI Data Analyst to provide technical expertise and support for the company’s enterprise applications by learning and understanding the underlying data structures and how they intersect. To meet the needs for this position, you will be required to use SQL scripts and other tools to perform ETL, data validation and other import / export functions both within and between various systems. This position reports to the Senior IT Manager.

What You’ll Do:

  • Own data modeling, reporting and dashboards in our Business Intelligence tools
  • Develop BI training curriculum for business users and ensure users of our BI tools feel empowered to self-serve and provide technical support for business users
  • Learn and document the processes, systems, tables, and business rules for our systems.
  • Develop, implement, and optimize stored procedures and functions with Microsoft SQL Server, and be able to independently determine system behavior by following the data trail via SQL queries and process flows
  • Develop, design, and deploy test scripts; set up the test environment and contribute to the requirements documentation and test design for different types of testing; report and track problems through resolution.
  • Troubleshoot systems issues, including working with end users to understand, resolve and ensure proper follow-up during resolution.
  • Translate business requirements into documented technical requirements.
  • Think through potential scenario’s and use cases to ensure a comprehensive solution
  • Perform ad-hoc data mining
  • Investigate reporting anomalies.
  • Develop and maintain a data dictionary for the organization
  • Research solutions for the best systems and processes to perform system functions.
  • Create professional documentation around business processes.
  • Advocate with product and engineering teams for data collection and data quality

Your Creds: 

  • 5-7 years of experience in a data analysis role.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience working with SQL server scripting in a business environment.
  • Aptitude in problem solving, including the ability to logically structure an appropriate analytical framework.
  • Ability to interface and communicate effectively with corporate management and all other functions in the Company.
  • Visio skills to create process flows
  • Excel skills to create pivot tables and understand third-party data connectors

Extra Credit:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Prior experience in inventory and distribution and manufacturing based businesses. Experience with ERP and Order Management systems
  • Experience supporting data warehouse projects in a SQL Server Environment
  • Experience with Business Intelligence platforms
  • Programming experience (Python, C#, etc.)
  • Basic project management skills
